Iran says US missile strike on sports hall killed 24 people at start of war

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has accused the United States of carrying out a deadly missile strike on a residential area in the country’s south during joint attacks with Israel.

In a post on X, Baghaei said the 28 February strike hit Lamerd in Fars province, including a sports hall, citing a briefing from a local member of parliament.

He said “US Precision Strike Missiles” were used in the attack.

“The attack slaughtered 24 persons, including a 2-year-old girl, several teenage volleyball players, and other women and men,” Baghaei said.

“Those who ordered and executed this attack must be held accountable before any competent court of law,” he added.
