Video: Flotilla activist alleges torture and sexual abuse in Israeli detention

Flotilla activist Meriem Hadjal has alleged abuse and sexual harassment in Israeli detention after returning to France. International outrage has grown following testimonies from flotilla activists, while a viral video appearing to show Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir watching an attack on an activist has circulated online.

The flotilla, consisting of more than 50 boats carrying activists, medical supplies, food, and other humanitarian aid, was intercepted by Israeli forces near Cyprus on Tuesday as it attempted to sail towards Gaza.

Organisers said the mission aimed to break Israel’s maritime blockade and draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Israeli authorities boarded the vessels before detaining those on board and transferring them into Israeli custody. Several activists have since described what they say was inhumane treatment during detention, alleging physical assault and the denial of basic rights.
