Sky Bet launch Xabi Alonso Specials after Chelsea appointment

After sacking manager Liam Rosenior in April, Chelsea placed Calum McFarlane in interim charge for the remainder of the 2025–26 season while the club searched for a permanent replacement. 

Earlier this week, Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso on a four-year contract beginning July 1, 2026.

Alonso arrives at Stamford Bridge with an impressive managerial reputation despite his relatively short time in coaching. 

During his spell with Bayer Leverkusen, he guided the club to an unbeaten domestic double and secured the club’s first-ever Bundesliga title – achievements that quickly established him as one of Europe’s brightest young managers.

That success earned Alonso a move to Real Madrid, where he initially appeared set to continue his rapid rise. 

He was named Manager of the Month for August 2025 after overseeing a perfect start to the campaign, but a downturn in results later in the season – alongside reported tensions involving star forward Vinicius Jr. – saw pressure begin to build.

The situation ultimately came to a head following a 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana final, with Alonso dismissed shortly afterwards in January. 

Despite that setback, Chelsea’s hierarchy clearly believe the Spaniard has the pedigree to lead the club into a new era.
