Oliver Glasner wanted Crystal Palace vs Arsenal to be played on Saturday instead of Sunday after the Gunners were crowned Premier League champions
Oliver Glasner has revealed he tried to bring Crystal Palace’s final day fixture against Arsenal forward following the Gunners’ Premier League title triumph.
Both teams have bigger fish to fry as they are preparing for major European finals.
However, Glasner revealed Palace’s advances were knocked back, explaining: “We tried to move the game to Saturday because this would help us. This would have helped us for Wednesday with one more day because Rayo Vallecano play Saturday evening as they moved the game forward.
“We thought the league has already been decided. I didn’t call anybody but it was Wednesday morning.
“We were thinking about it before but we didn’t call the Premier League and say ‘hey, move the game if the title race isn’t decided on the last matchday’ but it didn’t work. That’s the short answer.

“I was just told it doesn’t work, there are contractual issues, TV rights and everyone wants the big final day with the celebration as Arsenal get the trophy.
“We accepted the demotion into the Conference League and we’ll play Sunday. This year it just feels like from 60 games, we had less preparation than the opposition and then it’s just fair that we have the same in the final game.”
Glasner also poked fun at Tottenham as Eberechi Eze prepares to lift the Premier League trophy on his return to Selhurst Park.
The Austrian added: “I want to congratulate Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, his players and staff for winning the title after 22 years. It’s a fantastic job he’s done.
“A special congratulations to Eberechi Eze, he made the right decision to go to Arsenal and not another club.”
Defender Chris Richards is a doubt for the Conference League final after damaging ankle ligaments at Brentford.
Glasner concluded: “Chris will miss the Arsenal game as well and it’s now 50/50 for us that he can play in the final in Leipzig. He tore two ligaments in his ankle. It’s stable but quite swollen.”
