Donald Trump has said Iran only has a few days before agreeing on a deal, as he said he believes the regime would use a nuclear weapon against Israel if allowed to develop one. Speaking to reporters in Washington Trump told reporters he is giving Iran until the weekend to make a deal to end the war.
A reporter asked the 79-year-old US leader “How many days does Iran have to come to the table?”
To which Trump replied: “Two or three days. Maybe Friday, Saturday, Sunday. A limited period of time. Because we can’t let them have a nuclear weapon.
“If they had a nuclear weapon, they would start with Israel and they would blow it up, they would blow it up fast”.
The president then went on to list the countries he believed Iran could target, warning that it could lead to a “nuclear holocaust.”
“They would go after Saudi Arabia, they would go after Kuwait, they’d go after the UAE, they’d go after Qatar, I think they would go after the entire Middle East.
“And it would be a whole different negotiation, it would be a nuclear holocaust.”
Trump was also asked how close he had come to striking Iran yesterday, he replied that the US had been “an hour away” from launching an attack.
Trump said “I never tell anybody when. But they knew that we were very close. I would say we were. I was an hour away from making the decision to go today, and we would probably not be talking about a beautiful ballroom today. We’d be talking about that.
“I had made the decision, so they called up. They had heard I made the decision. They said, sir, could you give us a couple of more days because we think they’re being reasonable.”
The US President also previously said that the month-long fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran is on “massive life support” after dismissing Tehran’s response to a US peace proposal as “stupid”. He had called the Iranian counter to US proposals “totally unacceptable”.
