Arsenal and Manchester United have been told they can sign Sandro Tonali this summer if they match Newcastle United’s €115million (£100m) asking price, according to The i Paper.
Tonali has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023, making 109 appearances and helping the club win the League Cup last season.
Arsenal are believed to hold genuine interest in signing the 26-year-old, according to BBC Sport, while Mikel Arteta’s side are also understood to be admirers of fellow Newcastle pair Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento.
Meanwhile, widespread reports have indicated United have made strengthening their midfield a priority this summer, with BBC Sport claiming the club are monitoring several targets in that position.
The Athletic reported in March that the Red Devils made Tonali their primary target last summer, but the club eventually decided against signing the Italy international due to the overall costs involved.
However, according to The i Paper, United and Arsenal have now learned that Newcastle would be willing to sanction Tonali’s departure provided they receive a sizeable profit on the €70m (£67m) they shelled out to sign him from Serie A giants Milan.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are preparing for a major summer of change with both Gordon and Livramento attracting interest ahead of the transfer window reopening on Monday, 15 June.
The Times reported last week that Bayern Munich are close to agreeing personal terms with Gordon on a five-year contract, though the German giants have yet to meet Newcastle’s €86m (£75m) asking price.
And the Daily Mail understands that Livramento is not only a key target for Arsenal heading into the summer, but Manchester City are also believed to be keen on signing the England international.
While it remains to be seen where Tonali, Gordon and Livramento’s futures lie, Newcastle will be hoping to end the season on a high when they travel to Fulham on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will hope to clinch the league title when they make the trip to Crystal Palace on the same day, while Michael Carrick’s United head to Europe-chasing Brighton and Hove Albion.
Tonali played down talk of Newcastle exit last month
Newcastle star Tonali poured cold water on speculation linking him with a summer move away from St. James’ Park last month.
In an interview with Sky Sports, the former Brescia ace said: “In football if you play well you have to deal with the transfer rumours, but if you concentrate 100% on your game, and you’re happy, you don’t have to think about anything or speak about anything.
“I don’t look at social media, I don’t like it. After my ban [for betting breaches], I changed everything with social media, I just go to training and then go home and be with my family. My life is much better now.”
