Manchester United and Liverpool are said to be keeping an eye on Juventus defender Bremer, who could be tempted into a move this summer.
The Brazil international is among Serie A’s best centre-backs, but tangible success has mostly eluded him since joining Juventus. His only piece of silverware to date came in the Coppa Italia two years ago.
It hasn’t been an easy ride for him since. While he has impressed when he’s been on the pitch, injuries have proved devastating. An ACL tear sidelined him last season, and a miniscus problem saw him miss several games this term.
Nevertheless, he has made the cut for Brazil’s World Cup squad, and he is set to marshal Carlo Ancelotti’s backline in North America this summer. Naturally, this will be an opportunity for Bremer to put himself in the shop window.
It is a chance he will be unwilling to pass up because, as Gazzetta dello Sport points out, he is a player “in a hurry.” He is well aware that, at 29, the window to win major silverware and to secure a big transfer is closing.
Bremer could leave Juventus
That doesn’t mean that the former Torino man is unhappy at Juventus. On the contrary, Bremer enjoys playing for the Bianconeri and living in Turin. However, he does have ambitions of achieving big things before the end of his career.
In that context, Juventus’ recent slump certainly has the potential to create an issue. Champions League qualification is going down to the final day this weekend, with the Old Lady now having to rely on support from other teams to still get in.
Missing out on Europe’s premier competition would obviously have consequences. Juventus’ spending power would be curtailed, which isn’t a recipe for future success. That said, some fans will argue that it could be for the better given the poor hit rate on big signings of late.
For Bremer, it could mean that a pay rise may not be forthcoming anytime soon. Juventus are toying with the idea of handing him an improved contract that reflects his importance to the club, but whether he is willing to sign will depend on the club’s ability to match his ambitions.
The defender wants to see a clear pathway towards progress and challenging for silverware. If Juventus can’t convince him, he could be on his way to greener pastures, and the Premier League would be his most likely destination.
Indeed, Man Utd and Liverpool are said to be alert to his situation. They certainly have the financial might to make “the right offer” to secure his signature. His current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €48.5 million.
