An Israeli strike killed a commander in the Islamic Jihad movement and his daughter after a guided missile hit an apartment housing a Palestinian family on the outskirts of the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek, Lebanon’s state news agency said early on Monday.
The attack comes amid continued Israeli violations of the fragile ceasefire agreement announced on 17th April and extended on Friday for another 45 days until early July.
The National News Agency (NNA) said “the Israeli enemy” targeted, shortly after midnight, an apartment occupied by a Palestinian family near the southern entrance to Baalbek.
It added that the strike killed Islamic Jihad commander Wael Abdel Halim and his 17-year-old daughter Rama, while rescue and emergency teams were still working to remove rubble and search for survivors.
Islamic Jihad had not issued an immediate comment as of 23.20 GMT.
On Sunday, at least nine people were killed and more than 18 wounded in 93 Israeli attacks on Lebanon, in what were described as new breaches of the fragile ceasefire agreement.
Since 2nd March 2026, Israel has carried out a large-scale offensive in Lebanon that has killed 2,988 people and wounded 9,210 others, while displacing more than one million people, according to official figures.
