Horror moment pensioner's car goes flying into pool after crashing through glass wall

This is the horrific moment a car crashes into a swimming pool after smashing through a glass wall. The car flipped over and fell into the water, just missing a swimmer at Hanam Sports Centre in the city of Miryang, South Korea.

Two people required hospital treatment after the mishap at about 10.18am local time on Saturday (May 16). The 74-year-old driver was just leaving the centre car park after a swim when she put the car in reverse, hit a passing vehicle then lunged forwards. Her car mounted a curb, crashed into the glass wall of a gym and plunged into the pool.

Video shows the car falling almost at a 90 degree angle, hitting the edge of the pool then flipping over and into the water.

Some eight to 10 swimmers were in the pool at the time, according to local media reports.

The vehicle fell about 13 to 16ft (4-5 metres), according to local news outlet, Korea JoongAng Daily.

Swimmers freed the pensioner, who was trapped inside the car. A witness said an instructor carried out CPR.

The driver complained of severe chest pains and was taken to hospital.

A woman in her 50s who was swimming at the time of the crash was treated for minor cuts from broken glass.

Police confirmed the driver had not been drinking and was a member of the centre’s swimming club.

She reportedly told officers she could not remember anything about what happened. The police are investigating.

A police official told Korea JoongAng Daily officers planned to question the driver and witnesses on Monday (May 18).

They were reported as adding: “We will determine the exact cause of the accident and closely examine whether there were any structural problems.”
