Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has strongly backed Luke Shaw for a place in England’s 2026 World Cup squad, citing the defender’s exceptional consistency and fitness after starting every Premier League game for the Red Devils this season.
Carrick praised Shaw’s experience, performance levels, and resilience, noting he is a fantastic full-back who deserves to make Thomas Tuchel’s final squad.
Recall that Shaw is on the 55-man long-list for the 2026 World Cup and is vying for a spot in the final 26-man squad.

However, Carrick believes Shaw’s experience and quality are essential for the tournament in North America.
“I certainly think so, yeah,” Carrick said.
“I haven’t got much sway in the matter at all, but I certainly think so.
“Again, the consistency, just what he’s capable of doing, the performance, the experience, his strengths, his attributes that he’s got. For me, he’s a fantastic full-back.”
