‘There’s Plenty Of Talent’ Chelle Explains NPFL Tour — Super Eagles Coach Finalises Unity Cup Picks

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed that Nigeria’s domestic league remains full of talented players, although he admitted that not every standout performer will get the opportunity to represent the national team.

Speaking ahead of the release of his squad for this month’s Unity Cup tournament, Chelle explained that his recent scouting tour across the Nigeria Premier Football League was aimed at personally assessing players he had already been monitoring.

“There is talent everywhere,” he said.

According to the Super Eagles coach, watching players live was important in helping him make final decisions on potential call-ups.

“I needed to see some players closely,” he implied.

Chelle noted that while many players impressed during his visits, national team selection remains highly competitive.

“Not everyone can be picked,” he added.

The coach stressed that his NPFL tour was part of a broader effort to deepen the connection between the Super Eagles and the domestic league.

“The local league matters,” he noted.

Chelle also hinted that he has already finalized the names he intends to include in the Unity Cup squad ahead of the official announcement.

“I already have my picks,” he stressed.

The upcoming tournament is expected to provide opportunities for several new and home-based players to showcase themselves within the national team environment.

“It’s a chance for fresh faces,” many observers believe.

As anticipation builds around the squad announcement, attention will now focus on which domestic stars make the final cut.

For Chelle, the message is clear.

Nigeria has talent in abundance.

Selection must be earned.

And competition for Super Eagles places remains intense.

Because representing the national team is a privilege reserved for those who prove they are ready.
