There’s a lot more than just silverware on the line for Chelsea and Manchester City in the FA Cup final this weekend.
Chelsea have the chance to add to their purse when they face Manchester City in the FA Cup final. The Blues will lock horns with Pep Guardiola’s side at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon, bringing the 145th edition of the oldest national football competition in the world to an end.
Speaking to reporters at Cobham on Thursday afternoon, Calum McFarlane urged his squad to relish the pressure of such an occasion. The interim Chelsea boss said: “I think when you’re at a club of this magnitude and like you’ve mentioned, the history that this club’s got in this competition and winning silverware, there’s always pressure.
“There’s pressure to win every game. Like this game, there’s always pressure, and you have to accept that and embrace that,” added McFarlane. “I think our recent form in the league has been way below the standard we’d expect and that we’d shown previously.
“It’s an FA Cup final, so we want to win it. It’s a massive competition, prestigious club’s got history in that competition as well, winning it eight times. So, yeah, our focus is on that, performing as well as we can against the top side.”

The winners of the FA Cup will be granted £2,120,000 on top of the prize money previously earned for progressing in the competition. Chelsea and Manchester City got the ball rolling in round three, so they’ve each already banked £2,024,000.

The FA Cup final will kick off at 3pm BST on Saturday, May 16, at Wembley Stadium. Viewers in the United Kingdom can watch the match live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website, with coverage starting at 1:15pm.
The game will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and HBO Max, starting at 9am. According to the BBC, each club that appears on television will also receive £80,00 on top of the prize fund from competing in the FA Cup.
How else do Chelsea and Man City get for winning the FA Cup?
The winners of the FA Cup qualify for the league phase of the Europa League. If they finish in the top five of the Premier League, their place in the competition will go to the next-highest-ranked team not qualified for UEFA competitions in the English top-flight.
Chelsea are currently ninth in the Premier League, so a win over Manchester City on Saturday afternoon would earn early, and automatic, qualification to the Europa League. If the Blues lose, they would need to make up six points over Bournemouth, currently sixth, in the final two games of the season.
The west Londoners would also need Brighton and Brentford to drop points, too. Chelsea are back in action in the Premier League on Tuesday night, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge, before facing Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on the final day of the campaign.
