Former Flying Eagles captain Ikouwem Udoh has welcomed the appointment of Abdu Maikaba as head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 national team, describing the decision as a positive step for the future of the Flying Eagles.
Speaking on the appointment, Udoh praised Maikaba’s experience and achievements within Nigerian football.

“He’s one of the best coaches in the league,” he said.
According to the former youth captain, the new Flying Eagles manager possesses the knowledge and experience needed to improve the team.
“He understands the game well,” he implied.
Udoh also called on the Nigeria Football Federation to provide Maikaba with the necessary support and working environment to succeed.
“He must be properly supported,” he noted.
The former defender stressed that tournament preparation should become a major priority if Nigeria hopes to compete strongly at youth level again.
“Preparation is everything,” he added.
For Udoh, Maikaba already has the qualities needed to elevate the country’s youth football structures if given enough time and backing.
“He can take the team to the next level,” he stressed.
Nigeria’s youth teams have faced growing pressure after recent disappointments at international competitions.
“We need improvement quickly,” many stakeholders continue to argue.
As the Flying Eagles begin a new chapter under Maikaba, expectations around scouting, preparation, and player development remain high.
