UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said the Israeli military obstructed UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon on two occasions on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters, Haq said an Israeli tank stopped peacekeepers escorting the Lebanese Red Cross south of al-Bayada and pointed its main gun at the convoy before ordering it to leave the area.
“The convoy was later able to proceed,” he said.
In a separate incident, Haq said another Israeli tank “briefly” blocked a UNIFIL patrol near Naqoura.
“Such restrictions are inconsistent with the obligation to respect UNIFIL’s freedom of movement,” he added. “We call on all actors to fully respect this obligation.”
Haq also said three Israeli mortar rounds landed roughly 70 metres from a UNIFIL position near the border village of Rmeich on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, UNIFIL reported “one impact inside and another near a UN position” in al-Bayada, causing material damage to buildings, according to Haq.
