Israel's Prison Service expanded solitary confinement of Palestinians, report says

The Israel Prison Service has sharply increased its use of solitary confinement against Palestinian prisoners, including women, children, since 2023, including minors and women, according to Haaretz, citing Physicians for Human Rights Israel.

The increase was shown by data obtained through a freedom of information request, amid mounting criticism from rights groups regarding Israel’s treatment of Palestinian prisoners.

Middle East Eye reported on Palestinians’ accounts detailing violent sexual assaults they said they experienced in separate Israeli prisons.

Sexual torture of Palestinian detainees from Gaza in Israeli prisons is an “organised state policy”, endorsed by the “highest, political, military, and judicial authorities”, a report has revealed last month.
