A group of 72 Palestinian university students from the Gaza Strip arrived in Italy on Tuesday, under an academic support initiative coordinated by Italian institutions, Anadolu Agency reports.
The students landed at Rome’s Fiumicino International Airport after departing from Amman, Jordan, and were welcomed by Italian University Minister Anna Maria Bernini and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
The program was promoted by the Italian Conference of University Rectors in cooperation with Italy’s Foreign and University Ministries.
According to Italian officials, the students will continue their education at 21 universities across Italy, as well as in the Republic of San Marino.
The initiative aims to provide educational opportunities and support for Palestinian students affected by the situation in Gaza.
