Chelsea in Anderson race

Chelsea are also in the mix to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, the i Paper has confirmed.

The England international is widely expected to leave the City Ground this summer, following an impressive personal season despite Forest’s struggles. Anderson has been heavily linked with Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd in recent months.

There have also been some tentative links with Chelsea, and it has now been substantiated that the Blues are also involved in the race, though there is a feeling that the West London giants are outsiders for his signature.

Romano confirms Pedro stance

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has reiterated that Chelsea will not sell Joao Pedro this summer.

The Brazilian forward has attracted the attention of Barcelona after a strong debut season at Stamford Bridge, with senior figures in Catalunya making no secret of their belief that he would be an ideal fit for the newly-crowned Spanish champions.

However, Romano insists that Chelsea will not sanction a sale. “The appreciation from Deco for Joao Pedro is already there since he was at Brighton,” the Italian said.

“Barcelona really like him, they consider him as a fantastic striker, but Chelsea are absolutely considering Pedro as a crucial part of the project. After a tough season, to sell probably the only player who has performed in a top, top way, that would be complicated.

“At the moment, the Joao Pedro story is considered really, really complicated. The appreciation from Barcelona is confirmed, but it’s really complicated with Chelsea.”

Alonso to Chelsea state of play

Romano has also provided an update on the links with Xabi Alonso, who is under consideration for Chelsea’s coaching vacancy.

Numerous sources reported on Monday that positive talks had taken place with the 43-year-old and that he is keen to work in the Premier League. The latter point is crucial, according to Romano.

“The reason behind all these stories in the last 24 hours is that those close to Xabi Alonso have opened the door to a move to the Premier League,” he stated. “The real change in the story is that Alonso is now open to trying a chapter in the Premier League.

“Alonso would even be open to taking the Chelsea job if both parties can find the right way to move forward together. However, according to my information, Chelsea are still deciding who they want as manager.

“They want to be very careful with the internal process as they determine the right man following the decisions involving Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior. My understanding is that Chelsea are still discussing the matter internally.”

Chelsea rivalled for Pavlovic

Man Utd are showing a strong interest in AC Milan defender Strahinja Pavlovic, as per Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness).

The Serbia international has been a standout performer for the Rossoneri this season. With there being a growing threat of Milan missing out on the Champions League, concerns are increasing that Pavlovic could leave this summer.

The centre-back has been linked with Chelsea in recent weeks, but it is now “above all” Man Utd who are keen on a potential deal for him. Milan reportedly value him at around €40 million.
