Brit tourist 'pulled into van' and sexually assaulted while walking back to Mallorca hotel

A British woman has been abducted and sexually assaulted on holiday in Mallorca with a van driver allegedly attacking her as she walked back to her hotel

A British tourist was pulled into a van and sexually assaulted while on holiday in Mallorca with police investigating.

The woman was attacked in the early hours of the morning on May 10 as she was walking back to her hotel in the island’s capital Palma.

Police say she was approached by a van driver who drew up alongside her. He then grabbed her arm and pulled her inside the vehicle where she was assaulted.

A man has been arrested by the National Police and accused of sexual assault after allegedly groping the victim.

The Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police opened an investigation after receiving the complaint from the victim, who explained that she was assaulted by the driver of a van in the early hours of May 10.

The woman said she left a leisure establishment in the Paseo Marítimo area of Palma to go to her hotel and during her walk back she was assaulted.

After being forced into the van the suspect began to drive at high speed while the woman was in the passenger seat and unable to escape. He then allegedly grouped her when they stopped at red lights.

It is understood that two occupants of a car who saw how the assailant put the victim in the van chased the vehicle to try to help. When the suspect stopped at the red lights a witness took a photo of the van’s licence plate.

The UFAM carried out several steps to try to locate the suspect and hours later he was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of sexual assault.

The accused man has already made a preliminary appearance before a judge in Palma. No further details have yet been given about the British woman and at what point she was able to escape from the van.
