Hojlund deal ready
Napoli will officially complete the permanent signing of Man Utd loanee Rasmus Hojlund when they qualify for the Champions League.
The obligation to acquire the Denmark international will automatically be activated with qualification for Europe’s premier competition. Napoli are currently second in Serie A and in pole position to finish as runners-up to champions Inter.
Man Utd will receive an additional €44 million for Hojlund when the clause is triggered, having already pocketed €6m as a loan fee. Both Napoli and Hojlund have made no secret of their desire to continue together beyond this season.
Leao slammed in Italy
Elsewhere in Italy, Rafael Leao has once again come in for fierce criticism for his recent performances for AC Milan.
The Rossoneri are on a rotten run of form and at serious risk of being overtaken by AS Roma and, potentially, Como in the race for Champions League qualification, which could cost Massimiliano Allegri his job.
Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic, who have both been linked with Man Utd, have struggled to score goals in recent months. Leao was booed off the pitch in Sunday’s dire 3-2 loss to Atalanta, with his outing described as “another black mark” on his poor season by Calciomercato.
Romano on Ederson
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has sought to pump the brakes on speculation that Atalanta midfielder Ederson is set to join Man Utd.
Responding to rumours that the Brazilian already has an agreement in place to join Man Utd, Romano has insisted that “nothing is done,” but he did acknowledge that discussions are happening.
“My understanding is that United are talking to his agents,” Romano said. “I told you some time ago that the conversations are active between United and the agents. They are also aware of Atalanta’s price tag: €45 million. So there are contacts for Ederson, but he is not the only one.
Fernandes passes transfer audition
Another midfielder Man Utd are interested in is West Ham star Mateus Fernandes, who put in an encouraging display against Arsenal on Saturday.
The Portugal international is likely to leave the Hammers this summer, especially now that they are seriously staring down the barrel of relegation. Man Utd’s interest in the young midfielder was recently confirmed.
His outing against Premier League leaders Arsenal was a transfer audition of sorts, and Fernandes passed it with flying colours. He was one of the best performers on the day.
