Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has admitted that he is open to interest from MLS amid ongoing uncertainty over his future.
The Poland striker’s contract will expire at the end of the season, and with Barca looking unlikely to be able to afford top target Julian Alvarez to replace him, the Catalan side are in talks to extend his deal.
Interest in the 37-year-old comes from the likes of MLS and the Saudi Pro League, and Lewandowski has admitted that he is willing to look into the possibilities of such a move. However, he has warned that he is not in a rush to decide his future.
“What will I do? I don’t know. I just heard I have 51 days left on my contract. I’ll listen to a few more offers and then decide,” he told Eleven Sports via (AS).
“There might be an option for a lower league. I’m about to turn 38, so I won’t deny that it might be time to think about it. On the other hand, I feel good physically, so I have a mix of things in mind.
“I have to consider that it might be time to play and enjoy life. Maybe that’s an option, so I’m not saying no.”
Laporta issues Lewandowski contract statement
Barcelona have launched a charm offensive towards the veteran in recent weeks.
President Joan Laporta told RAC1 in March: “Lewandowski deserves a contract extension because he wanted to come here. If he wants to stay, understanding his role, we will offer him a renewal.
“With Ferran and Lewandowski, the position is covered, but if we have to sign someone, we’ll do it. Harry Kane would be the same age as Lewandowski was when he arrived.”
Chicago Fire lead the way for Lewandowski
Should Lewandowski head to MLS, his likely destination remains the Chicago Fire, which were reported to have made the striker a lucrative contract offer earlier this year.
The Fire have been trying to sign a global superstar for years. They were in talks with Neymar and Kevin De Bruyne in 2025 and were also among the clubs showing an interest in Mohamed Salah.
Lewandowski would be the biggest star to join the Fire since Bastian Schweinsteiger in 2017, although Xherdan Shaqiri was certainly also a household name when he arrived in 2022.
Culturally, Lewandowski would be a perfect fit for the franchise. Chicago has the largest Polish community in the US, and the Fire have had numerous high-profile Polish players, including dual nationals like Chelsea’s Gabriel Slonina, on their books.
Links may have cooled off a little in recent weeks but Lewandowski’s latest comments suggest that a move to MLS remains a real possibility.
