Ten people have been hospitalised after a chemical was sprayed during a train journey in Japan, with services halting and emergency services rushing to the scene
Passengers were left ‘unable to breath’ after a chemical sprayed on Japanese train, leaving 10 people hospitalised.
The substance sprayed inside a train on the Tokaido Line section of the Ueno-Tokyo Line on Sunday, May 10 according to local media reports.
The train was headed to Takasaki Station in Gunma Prefecture from Odawara Station in Kanagawa Prefecture. After passengers reported the incident, the vehicle stopped at Kawasaki Station at around 4.35pm.
According to local media, passengers felt suddenly unwell, began coughing and struggled to breathe. Authorities were called around 4.30pm to reports of the substance sprayed inside the train cars.
When the train stopped at JR Kawasaki Station more than 20 ambulances and emergency vehicles were in attendance. Services were then suspended between Yokohama and Shinagawa stations on the Tokaido Line.
Authorities are yet to confirm the nature of the substance or the extent of injuries.
JR East, is the largest of the seven Japan Railways Group companies. Following the incident, trains began to re run on the Yokosuka Line tracks.
