Anthony Gordon’s future at Newcastle United has come under fresh speculation, with Eddie Howe quizzed on the situation after leaving the winger on the bench for last weekend’s draw at Nottingham Forest
Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has given the biggest hint yet over Anthony Gordon’s future amid links to Arsenal. The winger has attracted interest from the Gunners in recent weeks, with his situation at St. James’ Park still uncertain.
football.london understands the interest is genuine with the possibility that the club strengthens their forward line this summer despite the £100million‑plus investment in Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke. Gyokeres had a slow start to the season but has found form in the second half, scoring 21 goals in all competitions, while Madueke has managed just seven.
Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for the England international, but Newcastle will not be selling on the cheap. With a 15% sell‑on clause owed to Everton, the club are expected to demand full market value, having paid £45million for him back in 2023.

However, Gordon’s role as an unused substitute in Saturday’s 1‑1 draw at Nottingham Forest has only fuelled further speculation. Although Howe admitted leaving him out was purely a selection choice, his comments suggested the winger’s days on Tyneside could be numbered.
“Obviously, he has returned from an injury,” the Magpies boss said. “I am looking at the team, and I am pleased with how the team has performed in the last three games. So I didn’t want to make too many changes.”
In a later radio interview, when asked about Gordon, Howe added: “It was tactical. The team has performed well in Anthony’s absence, we have gone with a bit more solidity with Joelinton playing wide.
“One winger on one side to strengthen us defensively as we weren’t happy with how we were defending. Since January, we have been disappointed with a strange structure.
“Ant has come back to fitness and is training well but also I am looking at the future.”
For now, Gordon remains focused on helping Newcastle, though he is among the players who could be sold to raise funds for reinforcements amid a challenging Squad Cost Ratio (SCR) backdrop this summer, according to our colleagues at Chronicle Live.

“About me? I haven’t seen them,” Gordon told Chronicle Live earlier this year. “What are they saying? It’s the same old, same old. I think they just pick names out of a hat.
“They do [pick names out of the hat]. I haven’t heard anything; they might want to tell me before they tell you [the media].”
Gordon is under contract at Newcastle until 2030, putting the club in a strong position regarding any fee. The Kirkdale‑born winger remains on Liverpool’s radar, with the Reds having previously seen a move fall through back in 2024.
