Manchester City are right back in the Premier League title race but Arsenal remain in the driving seat and are just a few wins from glory
Arsenal remain in control of the Premier League title race, even after Manchester City’s win over Brentford. Just two points now separate the rivals, but that gap can return to five if the Gunners beat West Ham United on Sunday, which would also present a scenario where they can claim the title at home to Burnley later this month.
Following the Gunners’ trip to London Stadium, they have just two games left on the schedule, while Pep Guardiola’s side have three.
A win against the Hammers will keep Arsenal top even if City beat Crystal Palace, but if they do drop points on Wednesday, the title can be claimed by the Gunners with a victory against Burnley on Monday, May 18, as they would move eight points clear with only two games left for City.
That is the earliest date Arteta and his players can finally call themselves domestic champions, but it is possible that they could win the trophy the following day when City play on Tuesday, May 19.
24 hours on from Arsenal hosting Burnley, City travel to Bournemouth, and anything but a win – assuming Arsenal and City have claimed maximum points to that stage – will mean they cannot finish first, as they will be at least four points behind.

Despite slipping up against Everton, City will be expected to beat both Palace and Bournemouth. Arsenal are also likely to claim six points from their next two games which will see the title race go down to the final day of the season.
Aston Villa, just a few days on from a Europa League final against Freiburg, are the visitors to Etihad Stadium. In the capital, Arsenal are at Selhurst Park to face a Palace team that have their own European final they are likely focusing on with that against Rayo Vallecano just three days after the domestic season has ended.

Luis Enrique’s side eliminated Arsenal from the semi-finals of last season’s competition and thus revenge is firmly on their mind.
