Arsenal have formally registered their interest in FC Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window as they look to bolster the squad at Mikel Arteta’s disposal.
The Gunners spent just shy of €300 million on new signings last summer, despite only recouping €10m through player sales, but they remain eager to secure the signatures of several reinforcements ahead of next season.
FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are keen to sign a new full-back, a new central midfielder and a new left winger this summer, with Newcastle United trio Valentino Livramento, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon all under consideration by the Emirates Stadium hierarchy.
However, a number of alternative targets have also been identified and Arsenal have now joined the race to sign Froholdt after being impressed by his form since joining Porto from FC Copenhagen last July.
To date, the 20-year-old has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 50 appearances across all competitions during his debut season with Francesco Farioli’s side and his performances have attracted the attention of several top European clubs.
Liverpool and Newcastle United have both been linked with a move for the Denmark international, while Arsenal have now formally expressed their interest in his signature, as confirmed by The Times.
Froholdt’s current contract at Porto, which runs until 2030, includes a release clause worth €85m, but the Portuguese giants will reportedly consider a sale if they receive an offer of €60m due to their need to balance the books.
In order to fund a deal, however, Arsenal will likely be required to sanction sales themselves, with the futures of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White and Christian Norgaard all uncertain. Myles Lewis-Skelly has also been heavily linked with an exit, but his recent performances against Fulham and Atletico Madrid in midfield may cause Arsenal to block a sale.

Froholdt has enjoyed an excellent debut campaign at Porto and speaking to reporters during the March international break, former Denmark forward Mikkel Beckmann was keen to heap praise on the midfielder.
“He arrived at the national team camp on fire. He runs like a Duracell bunny, does nothing wrong… And scores incredible goals.
“The pressure he puts on opponents is on a completely different level. It’s obvious he’s in a great moment.”
