Notre Dame football boss Marcus Freeman was set to appear on Saturday Night Live until Sherrone Moore’s arrest derailed the college football coach’s cameo.
That is according to Shane Gillis, the comedian and Notre Dame superfan who revealed that Moore’s career came crashing down the same week that Freeman was slated to join SNL.
Back in December, Moore was fired as the University of Michigan football coach after the school became aware of his affair with 32-year-old staffer, Paige Shiver.
He was later arrested that same day near an apartment belonging to Shiver after police received a 911 call claiming he had burst into her residence and threatened to harm himself.
Moore recently avoided prison over the scandal, after pleading no contest to misdemeanor counts of trespassing and malicious use of a telecom device in a relationship.
Charges of home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering against him were dismissed as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

On Tuesday, Gillis told the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast that he was working to bring Freeman on SNL on December 13, only for Moore to be arrested three days earlier.
‘It was close,’ Gillis said. ‘We were close to getting it done. I was talking to [SNL creator] Lorne [Michaels] about it, and we were close.
‘We were going to have him on “Weekend Update,” and then something happened at the Michigan program that became the biggest story in college football, and not Notre Dame, so we couldn’t do it. For real. It was that week.’
Shiver recently revealed she became pregnant during their yearslong affair but was forced to terminate the pregnancy over health concerns.
In a bombshell interview with ABC, Shiver said she was already pregnant when she learned she was suffering from Pompe disease, a rare, inherited lysosomal storage disorder that weakens muscle.
Doctors feared for her safety while Moore, the 40-year-old married father with whom she was having an affair, urged her to terminate the pregnancy.
‘Multiple doctors and experts told me that it wouldn’t be right or healthy for me to keep the baby,’ she told ABC. ‘[Moore] said you have to do what’s right for your body.’
The Daily Mail reached out to Moore’s attorney for comment about Shiver’s revelation.

Shiver informed the school about their yearslong affair on December 10, leading to Moore’s dismissal that day. Hours later, Shiver told ABC, Moore was barging into her apartment.
‘All of a sudden, I hear footsteps, and they’re getting closer and louder, and I’m like “C**p!” and so I run to my door to try to lock it,’ she said. ‘He barges in, and he’s standing like this close to me, and he said, “You ruined my life. Why would you do this to me?”‘
‘I start backing up, and he starts following me,’ she continued. When asked if she feared for her life, Shiver added: ‘Oh my gosh, yes.’
‘He’s 6ft4, and he comes in with his hood up, looking down at me, saying, I ruined his life, crying. And then [he] starts coming at me, and I tell him to leave, that he’s not supposed to be here. He’s not he’s not listening to me. And then he starts grabbing butter knives.’
Representatives for Freeman, NBC and the Notre Dame Athletic Department did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Mail.
