Casemiro has reacted to Manchester United fans who want him to remain at Old Trafford for one more year, explaining why he does not envisage a U-turn in his thinking.
The midfielder may have been a standout figure for Man Utd this season, but he is destined to leave as a free agent at the end of his contract at the end of June.
Following his announcement, supporters have rallied around the former Real Madrid star, chanting for him to stay ‘one more year’ at Old Trafford.
Casemiro is set to resist these calls, revealing why he intends to leave the Theatre of Dreams, despite playing a key role as the Red Devils head back into the Champions League next season.
Asked directly about staying at Man Utd, he told ESPN: “I don’t think there’s a chance, there’s no chance.
“Mostly because of what I said, you know? Go out the big door, I think it was four beautiful, wonderful years and I am eternally grateful not only to the club, but to the fans.
“But I think I have to leave in good terms, I have to go out on top. I will be an eternal United fan here in England and I just have to thank all the love from the fans.”
What next for Casemiro?
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the 34-year-old remains likeliest to move to MLS, where there is strong interest from Inter Miami.
“My understanding remains MLS, with Inter Miami leading the race and pushing. Inter Miami are the favourites. LA Galaxy are also interested, but Casemiro is leaning towards MLS rather than Saudi Arabia or European clubs,” he told his YouTube channel.
“Let’s wait for more conversations to take place, but for sure Casemiro’s future is linked to MLS. And Casemiro is not going to stay at Manchester United. It was a very honest interview today with ESPN Brazil, saying he loves Manchester United, wants to finish well, and wants to finish in a beautiful way. He also said he will be a United fan forever. In England it will be his club. So a very loyal and respectful message from Casemiro once again.”
Messi hook up
Playing with Lionel Messi in Miami is thought to be a major draw in taking Casemiro to the USA.
Sky Sports reports: “Miami is said to be the city he and his family would like to live in the most – and the conditions are right at Inter after they acquired an international slot from New England Revolution.
“Casemiro also wants to play with Lionel Messi, Sky Sports News understands – so much so that he is willing to reduce his salary demands to facilitate such a move.
“LA Galaxy are possibly the only other club that could afford Casemiro, which means he is more likely to move to another country – such as Saudi Arabia – if an Inter move does not materialise.”
Casemiro’s future, therefore, likely lies in MLS and not with Man Utd.
