Hamas said on Wednesday that the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip represented a “continued violation” of the ceasefire agreement.
The movement called on the United States and the countries guaranteeing the agreement to intervene to stop attacks on civilians.
In a statement, Hamas said that “the escalation by the occupation army in the Gaza Strip, and the air strikes targeting the Al-Daraj and Al-Zaytoun neighbourhoods in Gaza City, and Al-Mawasi west of Khan Younis, which resulted in the killing of several citizens and the injury of others, represents a continued violation of the ceasefire agreement signed in Sharm el-Sheikh and an extension of the ongoing war of genocide.”
It added that “the terrorist occupation government continues its brutal crimes against our people in the Strip under the cover of the ceasefire agreement, without facing any reaction that would deter it from these serious violations of the agreement and international humanitarian law.”
Hamas called on the US administration and the countries guaranteeing the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement to “act immediately to restrain the fascist occupation and force it to stop its aggression against innocent people in the Gaza Strip.”
The movement also urged the United Nations and its institutions to “take positions that guarantee protection for our people and stop the Zionist killing machine from targeting Palestinian civilians.”
Earlier on Wednesday, five Palestinians, including a police officer, were killed and others wounded in Israeli air strikes targeting two gatherings of civilians and a police vehicle in the northern and southern Gaza Strip.
