The United States has condemned a drone attack on Khartoum Airport and other civilian sites, warning that such strikes further hinder urgently needed humanitarian access in Sudan.
In a post on X, Massad Boulos, senior adviser to the US President on Arab and African affairs, renewed calls for Sudanese parties to accept a humanitarian truce and ceasefire.
“The United States condemns the drone attack on Monday targeting Khartoum Airport and other civilian sites, reportedly committed by the Rapid Support Forces,” Boulos said.
He added that civilian objects must not be targeted. Civilian airports are especially critical for the movement of humanitarian supplies and personnel.
“Attacks like these generate yet another hindrance for desperately needed humanitarian access,” he said.
Boulos stressed that such attacks must stop, urging the warring parties to accept a humanitarian truce, move towards a permanent ceasefire, and facilitate a transition to a civilian government based on inclusive national dialogue.
He added: “There is no military solution to this deadly conflict.”
For months, the United States and Saudi Arabia, alongside Egypt and the United Arab Emirates as part of the international quartet, have been leading efforts to secure a humanitarian truce in Sudan.
