James Maddison will still have a crucial part to play in Tottenham’s relegation battle in the coming weeks, according to our Spurs reporters Alasdair Gold and Ryan Taylor.
The 29-year-old England international is now nine months on from that anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered during Spurs ‘ pre-season tour in South Korea and has been on the bench for the past three matches for Roberto De Zerbi’s side. However, Maddison has not featured so far as he and the club time his return for the right moment.
When asked on Friday afternoon at his press conference ahead of the 2-1 win at Aston Villa about when the midfielder will return to Premier League action, De Zerbi had said: “I don’t know, I would like to play with him, because he’s a special player, he’s a different player, but we have to consider the physical condition, a lot of things. But I think he can be important in the next three games.”
In the latest episode of their Talking Tottenham podcast, our Spurs reporters Alasdair and Ryan discussed Maddison among many topics, with Alasdair pointing out that the Tottenham midfielder could be seen wearing small sports socks rather than the team’s yellow match socks throughout the warm-up and match at Villa Park, suggesting he was not ever coming on.

Both our reporters believe Maddison will make his comeback on Monday night with a few minutes against Leeds and have tipped him to have an important moment for Spurs before the season ends.
