Destanee Aiava has given a shattering update on the health of her father who had been admitted to hospital last week.
Hassan Aiava, a strength and conditioning coach and exercise physiologist, had been admitted to the ICU with a fractured skull.
In her initial post on Instagram, the tennis star revealed he had suffered a brain bleed after being found unresponsive.
He received extensive emergency surgery in an attempt to relieve the pressure on his brain.
But today, on Instagram, Destanee told of the two best case scenarios for her father.
Unfortunately, those presented to her and her brother were heartbreaking, as it was revealed the best hope was a complete vegetative state or not waking up at all, recommending that they remove the breathing tube to make him more comfortable.

Destanee also opened up about her struggles in a vulnerable moment on her Instagram
Destanee once again shared her GoFundMe page on the update, where she wrote, ‘dad isn’t dead yet, but I feel like he has been for the past 10 days.
‘His doctors have said every single day the best case scenario for him is a complete vegetative state or not waking up at all.
‘They’ve recommended to take his breathing tube out so he’s in less discomfort and put into supportive care to see how long he can fight for before going into palliative care.Â
‘Unfortunately the decision isn’t mine or my brother’s as we’re not considered the first next of kin, but I know my father and I know what he’d want.Â
‘I was hopeful for a miracle but the longer this goes on the more angry I am getting.Â
‘Anyways, thank u for the messages guys, keep sharing and whatever happens, the proceeds will go to his recovery or funeral.’
The caption was accompanied with a love heart emoji.
In a vulnerable moment on her Instagram story, Destanee said she had ‘clearly not dealt with death before’ and was ‘crashing out.’
The initial news came last week when the 26-year-old opened up about the injuries her father sustained.
At that time, she wrote, ‘Two nights ago my dad was found unresponsive and rushed to hospital after suffering a serious medical emergency.
‘He had significant head trauma, including a brain bleed and skull fracture, and underwent emergency surgery overnight to relieve the pressure on his brain.
‘He is currently in the ICU in critical condition and remains unresponsive. At this stage, doctors are closely monitoring him and taking each day as it comes, but the situation is still very serious.
‘We are facing an unknown road ahead with his recovery. This will likely include ongoing hospital care, rehabilitation, and time away from work while he recovers.
‘Any support during this time would mean more than we can put into words. Thank you to everyone for your kindness, support, and for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers.’
