The UN Human Rights Office has said that Gaza is the deadliest place in the world for journalists.
In a post on X on Sunday, the UN body called on countries to take action “beyond words of condemnation and solidarity” to ensure accountability, protect journalists and allow independent access for international media.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said that “Israel’s war in Gaza has become a death trap for the media,” adding that “his office has verified the killing of nearly 300 journalists since October 2023, with many more injured.”
