Brentford are in talks with RB Salzburg for defender Jannik Schuster.
The 19-year-old has been on the Bees’ radar for the past year and has impressed scouts with his physical presence and ability to bring the ball out of defence.
Although considered a little raw, Brentford believe there is enough evidence to suggest he can make a successful transition to the physicality of the Premier League.
Discussions are under way over a deal worth around £16million.
Schuster has been capped throughout youth level with Austria and at U21 level. He started out at Salzburg’s nursery club FC Liefering and captained Salzburg’s youth side in the UEFA Youth League.

He also has experience of Champions League and Europa League football from this season where he has made 23 appearances and scored once.
From the Austrian Tirol, 6ft 3in Schuster only made his Salzburg debut just under a year ago but has made a big enough impression on Brentford scouts in that time.
He hails from a family of ski jump fanatics. His father Werner was Germany’s national coach and his elder brother Jonas has competed at the Olympics. However, Jannik’s preference was for football.
