Police arrested a 32-year-old man an hour after they were called to the scene
Three members of one family have been killed in what police described as a “horrendous” and “very bloody” scene at a southwestern Sydney home.
Emergency crews were called to a property on Juliet Close in Rosemeadow shortly after 1.30am on Sunday following reports of a violent incident.
Police found a couple in their 60s and two of their sons who had been attacked at the address.
Campbelltown Commander Superintendent Grant Healey said: “Police first encountered a 65-year-old woman and started doing first aid on her… police went inside the house and found a 64-year-old male who was still alive with serious blunt force head injuries,”
“They found a male deceased in a granny flat at the rear of the premise.
“Police were confronted with a very bloody scene. Blunt force trauma is always horrendous for people to confront, and any edged weapon attack is horrendous to confront.”
The man discovered in the granny flat is believed to be the couple’s 25-year-old son.
A second son, aged 30, is understood to have contacted emergency services after being assaulted. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment and discharged later that morning.
About an hour after the initial emergency call, police arrested a 32-year-old man.
When asked whether charges were imminent, Superintendent Healey said: “It’s still very early. We have a few things to run through.
“This is a very tragic incident, there was no way for us to predict this type of thing was going to occur,” he said.
“This is an incredibly rare incident and it’s incredibly tragic.”
Investigators believe more than one weapon may have been used in the attack, including a bladed object and another capable of causing “blunt force trauma”, believed to be a hammer.
Neighbours described the family as quiet and largely private.
Another neighbour reported being woken around 1.30am by noises that initially sounded like a car chase.
“Then all the emergency cars came and a silver Subaru returned to the street. Someone said they saw a man hold up his hands as police approached him,” he said.
