Former D’Tigers player Stanley Gumut has expressed confidence that Maktown Flyers can still qualify for the next round of the Basketball Africa League despite suffering back-to-back defeats.
Speaking on the team’s performance so far, Gumut insisted that results do not fully reflect the effort and potential shown by the debutants.
“They can still make it,” he said.
According to him, the Flyers have impressed in their first appearance in the competition, particularly considering their limited preparation time.
“They’ve shown quality,” he implied.
Gumut pointed out that some of the team’s struggles can be traced to inadequate preparation leading into the tournament.
“Preparation wasn’t ideal,” he noted.
Despite that, he praised the players for their resilience and determination, noting that they have remained competitive against more experienced sides.
“They are fighting,” he added.
For the former international, the key now is to build on the positives and correct the mistakes that have cost them in previous games.
“They must improve quickly,” he stressed.
He believes that with better execution and focus, the team can still turn their campaign around.
“It’s still possible,” he said.
As the tournament progresses, Marktown Flyers will need strong performances in their remaining games to keep their hopes alive.
