Manchester United are interested in AC Milan star Christian Pulisic, who is in the midst of the worst goal drought of his career.

The Red Devils are looking for more offensive reinforcements. Despite spending more than €250 million on forwards last summer, Man Utd will again dip into the market for attackers.

Signing a left-winger is a well-documented priority for the Old Trafford club. However, with Joshua Zirkzee expected to leave the club, Man Utd could also look for a more versatile forward, one capable of filling numerous attacking roles to provide cover across the frontline.

This is where Pulisic comes into play. TEAMtalk claims that the USMNT captain is a “major attraction” because of his ability to perform in various configurations. His contract situation has also piqued the interest of the Red Devils.

He will have a year remaining on his deal this summer, and reports in Italy have suggested that Pulisic has been left frustrated by AC Milan’s lack of urgency in discussions over a new – and improved – contract.

Pulisic in worrying form

Incidentally, the reports of Pulisic’s supposed frustration have coincided with the worst goal drought of his professional career. The 27-year-old has yet to score in 2026, going 18 games without finding the back of the net for club and country.

It comes at the worst possible time, too, as Pulisic is gearing up for a World Cup on home soil. However, it is not all his fault. Milan boss Max Allegri has to shoulder some of the blame for employing a tactical system that does not get the best out of his attackers.

Pretty much all of Milan’s attackers are struggling this season, with Allegri valuing defensive solidity over offensive panache. Rafael Leao, the Rossoneri’s other star attacker, has not scored since the start of March.

Neither Pulisic nor Leao is comfortable playing as a striker with his back to goal against hard-nosed Serie A defenders, yet Allegri has essentially used the pair as a front two, which has simply not worked.

Pulisic is at his best when he can use his quick thinking and unpredictable movement to crash the box. Allegri, though, has failed to get the best out of him in recent months, and he knows it, too.

He recently admitted that this goal drought has hit Pulisic hard, but he insisted that he will not compromise on his approach because he believes it gives Milan the best chance of achieving their goal of returning to the Champions League.

“Christian is a very sensitive man, and this drought is hitting him harder,” Allegri said. “He is also someone who struggles more with the physicality of duels and the lack of a centre-forward, but I must try to give a balance to this team, as we have an objective to achieve.

“I realise he is not entirely suited to this. I had asked him to play centre-right tonight and Leao centre-left, so we were without a centre-forward. Rest assured, by the end of the season, Pulisic will have given his contribution.”

A return to the Premier League off the back of his poor form would be a surprise. However, there is still plenty of football to be played, including a World Cup, so Pulisic could yet show Man Utd that signing him is a gamble worth taking.
