A football trailblazer from Ealing was bursting with pride after receiving a prestigious London Sport Award.
Shaun Sherrick, 65, collected the Community Impact Award at the iconic Guildhall ceremony this week.
Sherrick is manager of Barnet Walking Football Club, which won the gong for their tireless work bringing together older members of their community for 11 years.
He said: “We are now up to about 150 to 200 playing sports and football. Not only that, we have now set up Barnet’s first-ever dementia sports.
“We’re bringing football to everybody. It’s all about looking after people, listening to them, and showing empathy and kindness.
“Each piece of us goes together and we make a massive jigsaw that shines all together. We threw this stone into the ocean and this pebble of human kindness just rippled out.”
Taking place at the iconic Guildhall, the regional awards welcomed high-profile guests such as Olympian and TV personality Montell Douglas, who hosted proceedings, British bobsledder Greg Cackett and LSA CEO Emily Robinson.
Supported by the City of London Corporation, the 2026 London Sport Awards honoured inspiring individuals, projects, and organisations across ten categories, from volunteers and community clubs to businesses and tech innovators, who are helping Londoners lead healthier, more active lives.

As well as celebrating all of the nominees, another highlight of the evening was a Q&A session with Douglas, who is only the second British woman to have competed at both a summer and winter Olympic Games, and Cackett, a three-time Winter Olympian and world championship silver medallist who competed for Team GB at Milan-Cortina 2026.
London Sport CEO Emily Robinson said: “The London Sport Awards is a fabulous showcase that brings to life all the different groups, volunteers, and grassroots sports organisations in the city of London that are doing amazing things.
“We want people to feel really encouraged that their hard work is being recognised as different sports and well-being activities are incredibly important to the lives of Londoners.”
