FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed the introduction of strict new disciplinary measures aimed at protecting the integrity and respect of the game ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Following a Special Meeting held in Vancouver, key changes were approved that could see players sent off for actions previously considered minor.
“These decisions protect the game,” Infantino said.
Under the new regulations, approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) players who cover their mouths while confronting opponents or officials could receive a straight red card.
“It’s about respect,” he implied.
Additionally, any player who walks off the pitch in protest of a refereeing decision will also face immediate dismissal.
“There must be discipline,” he noted.
The changes are set to take effect at this summer’s World Cup, with FIFA aiming to stamp out dissent and improve the behavior of players on the global stage.
“We want mutual respect,” Infantino added.
The move represents one of the most significant shifts in football’s disciplinary approach in recent years, signaling a stricter stance on player conduct.
“It sets a new standard,” he stressed.
