US President Donald Trump now says that Iran is “choking like a stuffed pig” and claims it will get worse for the country if they don’t reach an agreement
Donald Trump claims that Iran is “choking like a stuffed pig” after rejecting Iran’s offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The US President earlier took to Truth Social today declaring “No more Mr Nice Guy” towards Iran as he shared an AI-generated of himself holding an assault rifle against a backdrop of missiles striking buildings.
And in his latest message to Iran he was responding to its offer to open the Strait of Hormuz if the US ends its blockade of its ports – with talks over its nuclear ambitions to come later.
He told Axios: “They are choking like a stuffed pig. And it is going to be worse for them. They want to settle. They don’t want me to keep the blockade. I don’t want to [lift the blockade], because I don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon.”
It comes as Iran’s national rial currency hit a record low on Wednesday of 1.8 million to the dollar as the shaky ceasefire with the US and Israel holds.
Trump also told the outlet that Iran’s oil storage and pipelines are close to bursting as they are backed up without being able to make deliveries. He is also reported to have spoken to oil executives to discuss contingency plans over an extended blockade of the strait.
A US naval blockade during the ceasefire has increased pressure on Iran’s already battered economy, cutting into a key source of government revenue and hard currency by stopping or intercepting oil shipments.
In his “No more Mr Nice Guy” post, he said Iran does not “know how to sign a non-nuclear deal” in an apparent reference to Tehran’s three-stage peace proposal, which reportedly sets out a delay to talks on the country’s nuclear programme.
“Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal. They better get smart soon,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
Two regional officials said earlier this week that Iran has offered to end its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz if the US lifts its blockade on the country’s ports and brings the war to an end. The reported offer was passed to the Americans via Pakistan.
Trump though was unlikely to accept the proposal as it would leave unresolved the core dispute that led the US and Israel to launch a war on Iran on February 28, which was over its nuclear programme.
