Brit tourist, 24, lay dead for hours after Tenerife plunge – full police update

A Brit holidaymaker may have lay undiscovered for hours after he fell ‘face first’ down a stairwell in the popular resort of Playa de las Americas in the Canary Islands

A Brit tourist who died while on holiday in Tenerife aged just 24 may have lay undiscovered for hours.

The young man was visiting Tenerife with a Polish friend, well-placed sources said today, when he plunged down a stairwell at his holiday apartment complex.

The tragedy occurred at an apartment complex called Parque Santiago 2, which consists of mainly privately-owned apartments that are often let to holidaymakers.

The tragic incident took place at around 5.30am on Saturday in the popular resort of Playa de las Americas but details have only come to light overnight.

The complex, described as “lovely”, has a pool and sits at the quieter end of the popular Playa de Las Americas resort, close to the beach and a plethora of shops and restaurants

.

The victim is understood to be a 24-year-old man who was on the second floor when he fell “face first” to his death. A spokesman for Spain’s National Police confirmed the dead man was British, adding: “This is not being treated as a crime at this stage.

“Pending the full autopsy results, everything is pointing to this man suffering a tragic accident.”

A source said: “The emergency services were alerted via a call from a Spanish man just before 6am on Saturday but the estimated time of death has been put at around 2.30am that morning which means the victim would have been lying undiscovered in the place where he fell for more than three hours.

“He had attended an electronic music festival the day before with his pal.”

Another insider added: “The friend was sleeping around the time the British man died and was informed about the incident hours after it happened.

“It would appear he fell down stairs but the exact circumstances of what happened are still being looked into.

A police report has been submitted to a local investigating court and the full post-mortem results will also be made available to the judge looking into what happened.

Cops have said the Brit holidaymaker had attended an electronic music festival in nearby Costa Adeje earlier the same day with a friend. The young holidaymaker is understood to have attended Eastenderz Tenerife.

Eastenderz is a renowned London-based electronic music brand, record label, and global event series founded by DJ and producer East End Dubs in 2014.

Officers are said to be working on the theory he woke up during the night and left the fourth-floor apartment he was staying in moments before his tragic fall on the stairs.

The ongoing investigation has been placed into the charge of a local investigating court which will continue to look into the incident.
