The Premier League title race between Arsenal and Manchester City intensifies as both teams face crucial fixtures in their final run-in, with Arsenal currently leading the way
Arsenal know they have a 15-day period to flex their title credentials and take advantage over hectic fixture schedule for Premier League title rivals Manchester City in the closing weeks of the campaign. The Gunners’ victory over Newcastle United at the weekend saw the Gunners reclaim top spot.
Eberechi Eze’s goal secured Arsenal a vital three points, though City now possess a game in hand owing to their FA Cup commitments at the weekend. Pep Guardiola’s men dispatched Championship outfit Southampton beneath the Wembley Arch to book an FA Cup final showdown with Chelsea.
The two top-flight sides will renew acquaintances at Wembley on 16th May, in what could be a welcome distraction from an Arsenal point of view. However, City will be hoping Arsenal progress in the Champions League which could serve as a distraction of their own.
Guardiola’s squad have just six matches remaining, while Arteta’s men could face seven. The Gunners return to Premier League action at the weekend against Fulham, with City afforded a few additional days’ rest before their encounter with Everton.
The intensity truly escalates after the first weekend in May. Guardiola’s side host Brentford on 9th May, and face five matches within a 15-day window should you include that fixture against the Bees.
City had proposed travelling to Bournemouth three days before the final day of the Premier League season, but that was rejected as part of five different proposals to resolve their fixture congestion. The club are believed to be frustrated about two lengthy away trips within a four-day period.

For Arsenal, they’ll have merely three top-flight matches to contest in the same timeframe, though could also have a Champions League Final awaiting if they navigate a two-legged tie with Atletico Madrid over the coming fortnight.
