A woman has died after falling from the balcony of her room on a Carnival Cruise Line ship.
The Carnival Firenze was near Catalina Island – 22 miles off the coast of Southern California – when the passenger fell over the balcony and landed on a deck below, according to the cruise line. The woman was travelling with her family, who raised the alarm to the crew.
“All appropriate authorities have been alerted,” a spokesperson for the company said. “As is customary, law enforcement will board the ship today on Catalina Island to conduct the required investigation.” The cause of the woman’s fall remains unclear.
“Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one,” the spokesperson added.
The Carnival Firenze can hold 4,126 guests and 1,425 crew members, according to the Carnival Cruise Line website.
