Bayern Munich board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has made it clear to Liverpool that Michael Olise is not for sale at any price this summer, and it’s all because of Chelsea.
The France international is one of the most in-form players in world football. Olise has been nothing short of sensational since joining Bayern in 2024. He has scored 39 goals and provided 52 assists in 101 appearances.
The right-winger was eminently important in Bayern’s Champions League success against Real Madrid, and all eyes will again be on him when the Bavarians face PSG on Tuesday. Ironically, Olise is believed to be a dream target for the French giants.
But PSG are not the only ones chasing his signature. Liverpool, too, would jump at the chance to sign him in an ideal world. They believe that he is the perfect heir to departing club legend Mohamed Salah.
However, Bayern are refusing to play along. The newly-crowned Bundesliga champions are not a selling club and will not cash in on their most valuable player, regardless of the money on offer.
How Chelsea changed Bayern’s transfer strategy forever
A few weeks ago, honorary Bayern president Uli Hoeness insisted that he would not sell Olise this summer even if a club were to offer €200 million for him. This has now been echoed by board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who revealed a very interesting “unwritten rule.”
When asked by t-online about Olise, Rummenigge explained that the club will not sell players who are deemed irreplaceable, no matter the possible financial windfall. This has been the club’s policy since they turned down an “incredible” offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribery in 2009.
“In 2009, we had an incredible offer from Chelsea for Franck Ribery,” the former striker said. “At the time, it would have been a new world transfer record. I then went to our then CFO, Karl Hopfner, and Uli Hoeness with this offer.
“We discussed it for two hours, trying to figure out what to do with it. That day, we made a fundamental decision: that in the future, we would never sell a player we would miss on the pitch.
“And this unwritten rule still applies today. For a player like Olise, there’s no price tag that would make us flinch.”
Rummenigge added: “He’s a wonderful player. I appreciate how reserved and almost media-shy he is. That’s rare these days. He’s a great guy, and on the pitch, he’s outstanding, the way he plays football, almost magically.”
