US Vice President JD Vance is not attending talks in Islamabad in line with standard diplomatic protocol, according to a report.
The Washington Post, citing officials, said such meetings are typically conducted between counterparts of similar rank.
The report added that Vance’s absence could also help the administration manage political fallout if the talks fail.
It said envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are more likely to incorporate Israel’s objectives into the US negotiating position.
The developments come as Washington prepares for another round of talks with Iran.
