Mets hit new low as pitcher is forced to take walk of shame after teammate's blunder plunging stadium into confusion

As the New York Mets moved towards back-to-back wins on Thursday night, a bizarre moment left thousands of fans inside Citi Field utterly bemused.

During the ninth inning of their 10-8 victory over the Minnesota Twins – which came just one day after they ended their historic 12-game losing streak – there was chaos in the Mets bullpen.

As closer Devin Williams appeared to make his way out onto the field, the Citi Field staff played his entrance music and set the stadium lights flashing. 

However, in a bizarre twist, Mets setup man, Huascar Brazoban, had already crossed the foul line to take to the mound. 

Mets play-by-play man Gary Cohen said: ‘Because he crossed the foul line, he has to face at least the first batter in the ninth inning’. 

Fans inside the stadium were left baffled after Brazoban appeared at the mound, while Williams’ entrance music continued to blare out around the stadium, before an explanation was later provided.

It turns out that the blame fell upon Brazoban’s shoulders. He revealed that a coach had told him that he would remain in the game if the score was tied after the eighth. 

However, by that point, the Mets had raced into a 10-7 lead over the visiting side. 

‘Once the lights started going on and off when they changed the pitcher,’ Brazoban explained, as per MLB.com. ‘That’s when I realized.

‘I felt bad. I was also a little bit embarrassed that I didn’t fully pay attention to what was going on. Sometimes when that happens, something bad can happen. 

‘But luckily I was able to go out there, get that out, and everything kind of went the way that it should have been by the end of it.’

In the end, it all worked out for the Mets. 

Brazoban ended up retiring Minnesota star Austin Martin in the ninth, before Williams finally entered the field and closed out the victory for the team. 

Just one night earlier, the Mets had finally brought an end to their 12-game losing streak after beating the Twins 3-2. 

While Mets fans were relieved that the team had finally ended their losing streak, no one would have been more grateful for the victory than New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Following his visit to Citi Field earlier this month, when he was filmed embracing mascots Mr. and Mrs. Met, the struggling MLB team endured one of their worst-ever losing runs after going 0-12.

Yet 13 proved lucky for the Mets on Wednesday night, when they finally ended that skid and Mamdani’s curse by snatching a 3-2 win over the Twins in Queens.
