All the latest Man Utd transfer news in one place, including updates on Carlos Baleba, Micky Van de Ven and Jadon Sancho.
Baleba still on Man Utd shortlist
Manchester United remain interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba, but he is no longer their top midfield target for the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Cameroon international was close to completing an Old Trafford switch last year, having agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, but the deal ultimately collapsed due to Brighton’s asking price of over €115 million (£100m).
This season, the 22-year-old’s form has suffered a notable dip and it appears as though his failed move to Old Trafford has played a key role in his drop-off in performance level. As a result, The Athletic report that Man Utd now only value Baleba at roughly €58m (£50m).
Furthermore, it’s claimed that while Baleba was Man Utd’s top midfield target last summer, he is now “in a lower category of midfielders on United’s list.” As a result, the club are unlikely to pay over the odds to secure his signature during the upcoming window.
Man Utd to explore Leao deal
Manchester United are among the sides reportedly interested in a move for Rafael Leao this summer despite growing controversy over the Milan star.
According to the Daily Mail, Leao is emerging as a target for United, Liverpool and Manchester City as well as Real Madrid after Milan opened the door to the 26-year-old’s sale.
Milan may be forced to make big sales this summer to balance their books after missing out on the Serie A title again and, with two years remaining on his contract, Leao could depart for a fee of £60 million (€69.2m.)
That price is viewed as ‘excellent value’ by many clubs for a player of Leao’s calibre and enquiries have been made by a number of sides who are hoping to secure a deal before the World Cup where his stock could rise with a strong tournament.
Man Utd eye Van de Ven
Along with two midfielders, Man Utd want to sign a defender this summer and The Athletic report that Micky Van de Ven is among the players being considered.
United believe that Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven could become as good as Arsenal’s defensive duo of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes but the Red Devils are looking for a left-sided player who can improve their current line-up.
That has led to interest in Van de Ven and a deal could be explored even if Tottenham survive their threat of relegation, although the transfer would become significantly easier if Spurs drop to the Championship.
Sancho gives approval to Dortmund transfer
Manchester United will finally be rid of Jadon Sancho this summer after the on-loan Aston Villa winger gave his approval to join Dortmund.
Sancho’s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire this summer and United would prefer to opt against activating their one-year option and get his wages off the book after a disastrous stint since his €85 million transfer from Dortmund in 2021.
And the German side look set to re-sign their former winger for a third stint, with Florian Plettenberg confirming that Sancho has held talks with Dortmund and ‘all the figures and information’ are on the table.
Sancho is also said to have many other offers but the ball is now in Dortmund’s court over their intentions, with a stay at United completely ruled out.
Long-term Man Utd target opens door to transfer
Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has refused to rule out a move to the Premier League this summer, having been a long-time target for Manchester United.
United will be in the market for a backup goalkeeper this summer and, while Senne Lammens will remain as number one, a player like Suzuki has long-been monitored and the Japanese international is open to a move.
“I don’t know, no one knows my future: right now my focus is solely on Parma Calcio, so that’s it,” Suzuki told Parma Live. “The rumours about my future? Yes, I’ve read something: I think it could be a positive thing for the players, because if you play well, many clubs want to buy you. I want to perform better and better.”
“I want to play in the World Cup, and if I play well, maybe I can make a big step forward. I don’t know… but I’m just focused on playing here and then on the World Cup. The Premier League? I like it, but I also like playing here and I’m very satisfied to be here.”
