Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho will leave Manchester United on a Bosman deal when his contract expires at the end of June and his departure will help free up significant space on the club’s wage bill.

The Englishman, who has spent the past two-and-a-half seasons on loan away from Old Trafford, arrived at Man Utd in 2021 as one of the world’s most exciting forwards, but his reputation has nosedived significantly over the course of a dismal five-year spell.

Sancho has only scored 12 goals in 83 first-team games for Man Utd and after a number of spats with Erik ten Hag, he was sent on loan back to Borussia Dortmund in January 2024. He then joined Chelsea that summer, before completing a temporary move to Aston Villa last year.

The former England international has only found the back of the net once in 33 games for Unai Emery’s side and it has been confirmed that Man Utd will not be renewing his contract, meaning he will leave Old Trafford as a free agent in July.

While the Red Devils will not earn a transfer fee via a sale, they will save valuable space on their wage bill thanks to the imminent exits of Sancho and Casemiro, who will also depart on a Bosman deal this summer.

This could prove to be crucial in Man Utd’s bid to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, who is speculated to earn an annual salary of over €12 million at Real Madrid.

As first reported by The Telegraph and confirmed by BBC Sport, the France international has been earmarked as a top midfield target by the Man Utd hierarchy ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

Elliot Anderson is still understood to be the club’s primary target, but he is also wanted by Manchester City and it’s rumoured that a fee of close to €150m may be required to tempt Nottingham Forest into a sale. As a result, a deal for Tchouameni could feasibly be prioritised.

Expert Verdict: Would Aurelien Tchouameni be a good signing for Man Utd?

Data analytics experts SciSports believe that Tchouameni would become the fourth-best player in Man Utd’s first-team squad if he joins the club this summer, behind only Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes.

He is regarded as a better player than Casemiro, the man he would replace at Old Trafford, and he crucially has significant experience at the highest level – having won the Champions League and played in a World Cup final.

Tchouameni’s defensive presence would also provide Kobbie Mainoo with the freedom to advance into more attacking positions, which would suit the England star’s skillset to a tee.
