Kano Pillars have been sanctioned by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for multiple breaches of league rules during their home fixture against Rivers United on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
In a statement issued by the league, the Kano-based club was found guilty of failing to provide adequate and effective security, which allowed unauthorized individuals access to restricted areas of the stadium.
The NPFL also cited incidents of pitch encroachment by supporters, actions that compromised the safety of players and match officials.
Additionally, fans were reported to have engaged in behaviour capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
Further charges included the club’s failure to ensure proper conduct of supporters, leading to the intimidation and harassment of match officials.
The league described some of the actions as gross misconduct, noting that they undermined the integrity of the competition.
As a result of these violations, Kano Pillars were handed a series of fines totaling N15 million. The breakdown includes N4 million for repeated failure to provide adequate security, N3 million for unsporting behaviour, another N3 million for failure to control supporters, N3 million for gross misconduct towards officials, and N2 million for disruption and delay of the match.
In addition to the financial penalties, the club has been ordered to play their next three home matches behind closed doors.
This sanction will apply to their remaining home game this season and extend to their first two home fixtures of the next campaign.
Kano Pillars have been given 48 hours from the date of notice to appeal the sanctions.
