Preparations for the upcoming Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) coaching and medical course, organised in collaboration with Ogun State, World Rugby, and Rugby Africa, have gathered significant momentum, with an unprecedented number of participants expressing interest.

The two-day programme, scheduled for April 23–24, 2026, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, is designed to equip aspiring coaches and medical personnel with the foundational qualifications required to operate within the sport.
It also aims to raise standards, enhance player welfare, and develop the next generation of rugby union professionals.
The initiative forms part of the federation’s broader strategy to expand the reach of rugby and create accessible pathways for individuals to contribute meaningfully to the game through structured training and education.
Speaking ahead of the event, NRFF General Manager, Azeez Ladipo, emphasised the importance of capacity building within the sport.
“We are committed to creating opportunities for young people to be empowered across different areas of sports.
Beyond being medical personnel, participants can also acquire coaching knowledge, making it easier for them to impact their communities,” he said.
“We appreciate the collaboration with Ogun State and hope more states will embrace similar initiatives to help young people gain the necessary qualifications to be part of the game.”
