A former beauty queen has been found dead in a luxury apartment after being shot.
Carolina Flores Gómez, 27, was found lifeless in one of Mexico City’s most exclusive areas. The shocking case is now being treated as a suspected homicide – with her mother-in-law named as the main suspect.
The model and influencer is believed to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head last Wednesday. Emergency services confirmed her death at the high-end residential complex in Polanco – a district known for its wealth and security.
Prosecutors have since revealed that her mother-in-law, named only as Erika María, is the key suspect in the case. She was reportedly inside the property at the time alongside her son, the victim’s partner, Alejandro.

Investigators are also probing a delay in reporting the incident. Although the shooting is believed to have happened on Wednesday night, authorities were not alerted until the following day, when Alejandro raised the alarm.
While the mother-in-law remains central to the investigation, Carolina’s husband has also been questioned over the timeline of events.
Adding to the mystery, security staff at the building reported hearing no gunshots or unusual activity. Forensic teams and ballistics experts have since combed through the apartment for evidence.
Marina del Pilar Ávila, governor of Carolina’s home state of Baja California, has called for a full and urgent investigation. She said: “No crime against a woman should go unpunished. Our thoughts are with her family during this devastating time.”
Carolina was a well-known figure in her home state after being crowned Miss Teen Universe for Baja California in 2017. She also picked up several local titles in her hometown of Ensenada.
Her death has sparked fresh outrage over violence against women in Mexico, with critics pointing out that even affluent areas like Polanco are not immune. The investigation is ongoing.
