WrestleMania 42’s main event ended in gruesome fashion on Sunday night, after CM Punk was left bloodied and beaten by Roman Reigns in their championship bout.
Reigns and Punk went head-to-head in the final match of the weekend at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, in a battle for the WWE’s World Heavyweight title.
After a thrilling match, it was the former who reigned supreme after hitting Punk with two consecutive spears to clinch the victory.
ESPN’s broadcast cameras panned to Punk after the loss and showed the former UFC star covered in his own blood after sustaining a head injury.
A still image of Punk and his gruesome cut quickly began circulating social media, as fans weighed in on the squeamish scenes in Las Vegas.
‘That’s ruthless,’ one fan bluntly stated in response to the picture on X.

‘He was always going to lose,’ another user wrote on the social media platform.
However, some fans were left convinced that Punk had ‘bladed’ himself; a term referring to when a wrestler purposely cuts themselves for the bit.
Typically when a wrestler ‘blades’ themself, they use a small razor blade which is hidden in their wrist tape to draw blood, while cameras are focused on their rival.
Footage began circulating social media which appeared to show Punk performing the gruesome act, however, ultimately, it remained unclear as to whether that was the case.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Punk had ‘bladed’ himself on the big stage.
While he was performing for rival organization AEW (All Elite Wrestling) at Wembley stadium, Punk was similarly accused of self-inflicting the cut which drew blood.
Elsewhere on Sunday night, iconic wrestler Brock Lesnar appeared to retire from the sport following his defeat to rival Obe Femi at Allegiant Stadium.
After losing his match in just four minutes and 42 seconds, a tearful Lesnar laid his gloves and boots in the middle of the ring in Las Vegas.

Elsewhere on the night, WWE legend Brock Lesnar appeared to retire from the sport
After the emotional act, Lesnar then had a passionate embrace with longtime friend and onscreen Paul Heyman, before turning and waving goodbye to the crowd.
On Netflix’s coverage of the event, fans could be heard chanting ‘Thank you, Lesnar’ as the 48-year-old made his way out of the ring for the final time.
Lesnar, who also had a stint as a heavyweight UFC fighter, walks away from the sport as a 10-time WWE champion, a two-time Royal Rumble winner and bona fide legend.
It didn’t take long for tributes to pour in for the 48-year-old, with Kurt Angle writing on X: ‘Love you my brother. There will only be one like you. Enjoy retirement Brock.’
